one for the geeks...

Current mood: YUM..
Category: YUM.. Music

I've had this Phonic 12 track analogue mixing desk for years...

It's half fucked

(3 of 12 channels are blown)

but it does the job of connecting the bits (unless I need the 3)

and generally speaking,

I like things to misbehave..

There's always been two LED lights on the right hand side...

One is POWER: -

(GREEN)

(EASY)

The other says

PHANTOM POWER: -

(RED)

Until yesterday, I'd never seen PHANTOM POWER

lit..

Any ideas??

Do you have a condenser mic plugged into your desk directly with no power supply of its own? If so, unplug it and maybe the light will go out...

Yes, it is used to preamp condenser mics when there is no separate power source for the mic.
There should be a switch for "+48 Volts" on the mixing board on the top or the backside of it, maybe it's on. Look by the XLR inputs...

I've now looked and there are no such 48db switches...

This mixer was made in California, does that go anyway to explaining things...?

Maybe a fuse for the phantom power was blown?

Emily

Did you decide to leave the light on?

As a general rule, I don't like RED lights in my peripheral vision...

Huh? Well, if I had to guess, I would say maybe a short circuit happened or you may have had the mic and the switch turned on at the same time. Some systems you have to do both. I think. I don't know if that helps. ??
