THE GRANNYS....

Current mood: ADDED OUT!!!!
Category: ADDED OUT!!!! Music

So, a day after the event, I tuned in for 2 TV hours of the 50th Grammy's

Now, believe it or not, until yesterday, I had no idea what the Grammy's even were.

No boss, I'd heard of them for damn sure, but there are so many award ceremonies, I loose track of which ones mean what, and which actually have any bearing on things...

So, for those of you who still don't know, the Grammys are the big US whoopsie of music award ceremonies and this was the fiftieth edition...

Now, the thing that has to be remembered with award ceremonies is that they most often promote a whole load of forgettable crap and occasionally reward the deserving.

Yes boss, when Natalie Cole came out to present an award, they introduced her as being a previous winner of the Best Album category for her album Unforgetable...

And you could hear the collective sigh of people thinking:

'FUCK ME!!! I'D FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT THAT ONE!!!'

Anyway, the whole ceremony is a complete sprawl of excess and success. There were some performances ommitted and some awards ommitted from the coverage I saw. There was also far too much of the Foo Fighters silky clean flowing locks, and not nearly enough electronic music, but I might as well headbutt the wall as complain about that...

Here are some other thoughts and observations:

Tina Turner needs to stop thinking she's 23 - AKA Plastic Surgery DOESN'T FUCKING WORK!!!! YOU'RE STILL FUCKING OLD!!!! AND WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT DOING IT - LOOK AT FUCKING JACKO!!!!!

Beyonce has very firm legs. In fact, she's an athlete...

Feists performance impressed me. She's good with the voice. She's still not to my personal taste, but she can sure as shit perform and I feel a bit mean for dissing her. I should have just said - I don't much like folky female folk voices and been done with it..

Little Richard was ACE!!

Of course, the UK media's star of the whole shebang was Fish Island diva Amy 'drink the' Winehouse - she took a whopping 5 out of 6 awards.

Yes boss, despite being a good few years and 2 albums into her career, Amy pulled in 'Best New Artist' as well as 'Best Song'...

She performed well, LIVE from London, but I wish she'd ditch the whole cabaret angle with the monkey dancing guys at the side - it cheapens and spoils the whole gig...

I do however love Amy's spastic leg movements - in fact the more I see of her, the more autisitic she seems to be - which is exactly what makes her good. I mean she's really not a natural mover. Put her next to Beyonce and you'll see exactly what i mean. But good art is all about restricted and repressed expression, that's then spilled out via a form, and Amy is a walking talking expression of that right now...

Amyway, we should have a parade with the mayor, fireworks, bonfires, virgin sacrifices, 300 paparazzi, a shitload of drugs, and dancing Komodo Dragons for when she returns to her Fish Island Den - if she returns.

Thing is, I get the feeling that her Fish Island flat is too tied in with her drug binges, for it to be somewhere she spends too much more time in, if she stays clean...

I guess my favourtite moment of the whole fest, was Herbie Hancock getting 'Best Album'. I've not heard the LP in question yet, but going on what I've heard of Hancocks discography throughout this last year, Herbie deserves everything he gets...

SO THERE!!!

You know, when I was reading about the Grannys this morning (I was doing better things last night, like writing about Komodo Dragons) I said to myself, "Gee, I wonder what PGPoundSign thinks about Amy getting all those awards and stuff." You must be using your psychic powers again, 'cause here'e the blog with my answer. Thanks, fella! So if Ms. I'm-Too-Drunk-for-Rehab ever does come back to your neck of the woods, tell her I've got a little present for her...

La Paloma, the Queen of Infinity

um, i think the rhyme from grade school went something like this...

boys are rotten-made out of cotton
girls are handy-made out of candy

boys go to jupiter, to get more stupider
girls go to mars, to get more candy bars!

Amyway, I'm sure she'll be well pleased with your gift - especially if these Komodo's can be trained to eat Paparazzi...

maryJane

until electronic music features tabloid attractive or bling-ed out folk, it will never be covered by the grammy-s.

&. i read that wino is staying with the osbournes now...

Yes...

Daft Punk made it as accessories to Kanye Wests first track (even though their version is and will always be far better than Kanye's) but otherwise there was nothing...

It's not as if electronic folk don't do enough drugs, so much as they aren't often girls and their no-panties (though regularly flashed) aren't quite as photogenic...

As for Amy, I guess Ozzy and the kids know enough about how to give up drugs so it might not be a bad idea...

i could not stand to watch long enough to wait for amy...i kind of wish prince had performed. tina turner was a geriatric nightmare. i, too, was taken by beyonce's legs. damn, they were impressive. tina turner freaked me out, though...i can't believe this stupid event has been going on for 50 years, i wonder if tina turner will perform at the 100th grams?

I struggled to make it all the way through, but I wanted to have a good look at how Amy's eyes were looking and as always I'm a dedicated worker of my job...

I was also waiting for Winehouse to credit Fish Island as being THE PLACE to take drugs...

Turner needs more help than Winehouse - she looked completely trolleyed...

Oh, and Mrs G says Beyonces legs don't have ANY cellulite - and I believe her...

Emily

I guess Natalie Cole made a comment afterwards about Amy Winehouse, saying that Amy shouldn't win Grammys until she gets her life straightened out or something to that effect. Lest we forget...Natalie Cole was a GIANT cokehead in the 1970s and 1980s. Apparently she was so bad that her kid almost DROWNED while she binged on coke with some dude. She really had no room to talk about drug abuse...and I wish she'd get off her dad's dick with that "Unforgettable" shit. Yeah, I said it, I'm not sorry.

Nonstop Everything

i don't that i've ever sat through one of these special olympics for aurally mediocre. i am very happy to hear that the rest of the world ignores them. hancock is a master, but i, too, haven't heard this one. from hearsay, i know the grammys are known to go with the oldest nominee for the big prize. i remember dylan getting one a few years back for a rather lousy effort, more or less because he's still alive. lastly, little richard's still alive?

JLL was definately the real thing - maybe Little R was a tribute act???

I'm often trying to think if theres ever been a better female singer from England than Amy.

Please help if you or anyone can think of one. I can't.

Well, that's a tricky question...

Her voice is only a certain kind of voice, and there's still an element of it that I find a little contrived and americanised...

I kind of wish she'd been raised in a barn and never known training or peroformance arts schools..

As for who's ever been better - I'm thinking on it...
