BITES IN PEUCE...

Current mood: RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS...
Category: RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS... Music

1) I have to admit that Golden Skans by The Klaxons is begining to grow on me. I still however have no desire to listen to their album again...

2) I realised today that Supergrass are more or less the same band as The Arctic Lorry's except Supergrass are much more fun...

So why are Supergrass considered to generally be rather throwaway - and The Arctic Lorry's seen as being important???

Here's my theory:

Because everyones in the comfort zone and no-one wants to hear or do anything political, radical or seriously anarchic, bands that even 10 years ago were seen as being pretty throwaway are now considered to be cutting edge - basically everything has taken a shift towards the middle...

Also the indie.alt music business is so much more professional nowadays.

The alt. record labels used to be run from squats by people who had no fucking idea about, or regard for the value of money. Now they're run by new media professionals with mortgages who are credible candidates for Young Entrepreneur of the Year...(Thanks for that Tony B and Alan McGEE)

3) Oh and whatever happenned to the huge indie bands of the early 90's that The NME told us were to be timeless and with us forever???

James, The Wonder Stuff etc...

Currently listening :

Mister Trippy

oh forget all that indie stuff, the Arctic Monkeys suck shit thru a straw, and instead check out Getting To The Middle (instrumental and vocal versions) by Eddie Bo - now that's what I call music!

I think indie is already forgotten.

I listened to a half hour of XFM today and inbetween the numerous ads telling the listener not to DRINK, HAVE SEX OR COMMIT BENEFIT FRAUD, they actually managed to play a few songs that were so bad my radio asked me to turn it off...

Eddie Bo???

No idea, I'll get my assistant to do some research...

The Cupid Kinkyboots Fan Club

I think your theory is a good one. Any time anything starts making money the sharks move in to bleed it to death. The Indie music labels of ten years ago have grown into big money making machines.

I think the current wave of Indie-ness is here on the internet. I find that the people doing their suff on podcasts, Live365, etc. are still more concerned witht their art than they are about making money.

Or maybe they just don't know how to make money until a shark comes in to take the business over...

I think there was a big injection of money into it all in the UK aroundabout the time of Brit Pop - and since then it's been impossible to tell the difference between the Sony's and The Domino's...

Good, music and the arts should always stay well out of control and association with sound business sense and decent working values...

Tom's a cunt, that's why...

He spends far too much working on his '85 Subaru and not nearly enough on maintaining this website...

On the pg.com blog no such restrictions will apply...
