CLASSIC ALBUM REVIEW :: JOHNNY CASH AT FOLSOM PRISON

Current mood: DIRTY LOWLIFE SCUM OF THE EARTH
Category: DIRTY LOWLIFE SCUM OF THE EARTH Music

'Hello I'm Johnny Cash..'

First up don't even bother listening to this record on CD or MP3.

No boss, this is a timepiece - it therefore has to be played on vinyl upon a record deck, and so long as you get this bit right, this album will sound completely and utterly brilliant..

If you wish to completely maximise your listening pleasure, you might also like to attend to the following guidelines:

1) Get someone to lock you inside a small room with a shitty bucket in the corner and bars on the window for a month long minimum (alternatively commit a serious crime and this should be covered by the authorities)

2) Whilst locked in said room, get a gay 'friend' or even better a complete stranger to come and vicious and calously bum you in your sleep, or whilst you shower (again if you commit a crime this shouldn't need to be arranged)...

3) Have the hardest person/persons you know come around and batter you with a rolling pin from the kitchens for being white/black/pretty/ugly/tall/short/gay/straight/innocent/guilty/young or old...(ditto)

4) Read a bit more about 'life in prison' on wikipedia and whatever it says goes on inside these hell holes - REPLICATE IT!!!! (ditto)

When all of the above are complete, get your keeper to let you out of the room for an hour only, and play this fucking record pretty damn loud on your record player....(this might not be possible if you've committed a crime)

So long as you get out OK, don't kill yourself in the process and hear it loud and clear, you'll be guaranteed to whoop and cheer with joy!!

La Paloma, the Queen of Infinity

if anyone listens to this on mp3 or CD then they should be immediately arrested, charged with a felony and sent to Folsom prison!! This is one of my favorites. Nothing beats a crowd of prisoners as a "captive" audience!

The whole spirit and humour of it is completely excellent - in fact listening to it pretty much sums up everything that's wrong with todays pop acts...

"in fact listening to it pretty much sums up everything that's wrong with todays pop acts..." --how so? tell me more.

I think it is the ultimate irony...

oh. i hold bad english against anyone who uses bad english. except of course, me; nothing annoys me more than bad english. but, as i said, i am exempt from any rules of spelling or grammar because, after all, i know how to use a semicolon when it counts!

Who else could have the stage presence to play in a prison than the Man in Black? Hmmm, lets see, how about nobody? The difference between Johnny and most of today's pop tarts is that Johnny actually knows how to sing a song. He knows how to take any song by any artist and make it like a hundred times better. I love his arrangements and he pours more feeling into a single song than most singers squeeze out of an entire album. The man can sing. I heard Johnny for the first time in Granny's car when I was like 7 or something. I didn't know what he was singing about but the way his coarse voice and speaky-singing style always haunted me. Of course now that I'm all grown up I can really appreciate his genius and talent. I just wish he wasn't dead so I could maybe take Granny to one of his concerts to thank her for exposing me to one of the greatest entertainers ever.

Yeah, he's definately someone I've missed out on in the LIVE arena...
