Grooverider (real name Raymond Bingham) has been jailed for four years in Dubai for cannabis possession.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ was found with 2.16 grams of cannabis in his possession at Dubai airport on November 23 last year. He claimed the drugs were in a pocket of a pair of trousers, and he had forgotten about them, reports BBC News.

Four years is the minimum sentence for drug possession in the United Arab Emirates. Bingham's agents have indicated that they will attempt to get him released early.

A spokesperson for the station said:

"Grooverider has paid a very high price for a serious mistake."

	Steve | Version Sound	I know I'm late on this but I believe Dallas Austin (the semi-famous Atlanta R&B/Pop producer) was busted with COKE coming into or out of UAE and was pardoned from serving any real time in jail. Part of me says "well that's what you get for not being more careful" and also I don't feel too bad for the Rider knowing the ASTRONOMICAL fees he's paid for shoddy DJ gigs around the world. 	Steve | Version Sound	exactly. also, its like who is going to book a world-class dnb DJ from London and NOT expect them to smoke weed??? My experience with those guys proves they nearly all partake in smoking large quantities (even by my standards). One night in particular with the No U-Turn crew (Nico, Ed Rush, Optical, Rhymetyme) they went through about 2 ounces easy in a hotel room. Fun Times!
