STATE OF THE POP MUSIC ADDRESS AKA ALBUM REVIEW ::: VARIOUS ARTISTS - NOW 68 DISC 1

Current mood: POP MUSIC
Category: POP MUSIC Music

I'd be amazed if there's anyone preparred to argue that chart music is in a good and healthy period right now..

Sure, there's been no better moment for openess and accessability to diverse and decent 3.26 songs from all corners of the globe. But the stuff that gets to the very top?!? The stuff that charts good enough to be on the latest UK Greatest Hits compilation??

Well.., using very inch of my cunning physique, I've got ahold of a promo copy of NOW 68 and will NOW engage with a track by track ULTRA scientific analysis on the exact state of the UK pop charts..

DISC ONE

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
Her new LP is the fastest selling of all time - another victory for the marketing department. This track is unremarkable, a minute too long and not nearly as good as Whitney..

Take That - Rule The World
Dry housewives tosh - so I obviously love this..HA HA AHAHAHAAAA))))

Kylie Minogue - 2 Hearts
1 in 5 Kylie singles induce gayness and she's been known to pull off an album - but this is BOSH COSH X10..

Mark Ronson feat Amy Winehouse - Valerie
Surely something more intersting (but no less pop) can be done with that Winehouse voice??

Sugababes
- About You Now
GOOD BASS! GOOD OVERDRIVE!! The Sugababes are a good singles act and this is a good pop single...

Kanye West - Stronger
I like Kanye, but this is no improvement on the Daft Punk. And do we really need anymore Hip Hop songs that mention Cristal???

Craig David - Hot Stuff (Let's Dance)
Sorry Bowie fans but I like this..I don't love it, but I like Craigs vocal delivery always..

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!

Shayne Ward - No U Hang Up
FUCKING AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!!!

Timbaland feat D.O.E & Keri Hilson - The Way I Are
WHY IS TIMBALAND SO HOTLY RATED
?!? Some of the Missy Elliot stuff was OK, but his repuattion bemuses me as does this ordinary song..

Britney Spears - Gimme More
Not her best, but a tolerable comeback from LA flasher girl Brit..

Rihanna - Shut Up & Drive
TERRIBLE AND COMPLETELY GODAWFUL SHIT!!

Girls Aloud - Sexy! No No No...
Never liked them - still don't..(though I wouldn't mind a bit of- NO NO!! DON'T SAY IT!! SHUT UP GIOVANNI, SHUT UPPP!!!)

Robyn with Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat
I like this one. Interesting sounds. I like the voice. Bad lyrics, but if I was working 12 hours in a kitchen and heard it 19 times a day I'd fall in love to it at least once..

Enrique Iglesias - Tired of Being Sorry
AND I'M ABOUT TO GET VIOLENT!!!

Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)
Saw them record this 'LIVE' for BBC's The Culture Show - One of the most workaday lacklustre performances I've ever seen. This studio version is better - but it's nothingly no-one no fake Prince pop..

Se:Sa feat Sharon Phillips - Like This Like That
WONDERFUL BOOTLEG POPPY DO DO NOO NOO!!

Ida Carr vs Fredde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It
Don't Bother

Axwell feat. Max'C - I Found U
Much more New-Pop-Rave than The Klaxons will ever be

Freaks - The Creeps (Get on the Dancefloor)
This track invokes me with a distinct and complete sense of ambivalence

Peter Gelderblom - Waiting 4
Anyone who samples the Red Hot Chilli Pepers needs surgery: TURGID AWFUL BOOTLEG ARSE!!

David Guetta feat Chris Willis & Joachim Garraud - Love is Gone
CRAPLY DULL...GO TO PROGRAMMING SCHOOL YOU UNTALENTED FUCKING SHIT EATING CUNTS!!!

So there ends my sums for Disc One.

The figures on Disc 2 will sometime follow...

That Sean Kingston song destroyed my summer :( That's all they play on the radio where I live, disgustingly enough.

The first time I heard it was on that medical trial. The young impressionable boy who was getting under the wing of the Nazi had it as his ring tone?! One night, some cunt was trying to call him at midnight and he was asleep. It rang about 10 times and even then he had to be woken up - which proves it's not even good enough as a nasty and vicious sound to get one out of bed.....

i witnessed children singin that sean kinston tune on a karioki machine, there is somthing very disturbing about watching a 8 year old boy singing about being suicuidal, might as well make him sing joy division.
somewhere in my room i have now 10, it features erasure, nina simone, the comumards...(or is it bronski beat) and the mighty freddy mercury yelling barcolona. how things have changed.
i would like to cut shane ward open for his songs. 'if we have a child it would look like you' what kind of lyric is that? the fucker has no understanding of genetics, girls dont have balls and niether does he.

YOU'VE PRE-EMPTED ME YOU MIND READING BASTARD!! Part 3 was going to be a review of Now 10 for the purposes of comparrison!!

I have that on vinyl and believe it to be an excellent record. Pump Up the Volume, Freddie, Pet Shop Boys, Kiss, Fat Boys & Beach Boys, Crockets Theme, Nina Simone - Oh and Wet Wet Wet...

You're absolutely right n'all Kingston - is he the new Ian Curtis???

i once dated a girl on the basis that she had now 8 on wax. that is the furthest back i have managed to go. i was about 4 when that record came out. do you know anyone who owns older nows...

im also after shine 7, the greatest of all brit pop compilations. it has 'some one always gets there first' by bennet and probally somthing by shed 7. oh how i love those indie no-marks. god bless geneva.

i don't think a noose could hold the weight of that fat fucker kingston, lets hope he's the new kurt cobain x

Let's not hope Sean Kingston is the new Ian Curtis, because the world doesn't need a Sean Kingston boxset with live appearances, and biographical movies about him :puke:

I'm NOT going 2 take the piss.I found it brave and noble 2 actually listen 2 such turgid dross and review it.You take your time about reviewing disc 2 ,it must have been harrowing enough 2 do disc one.I do quite like the Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse track....but then I'm hooked on Amy's voice....and the Zutons are rubbish ...anyway,my rice is about 2 burn.... xxx

I do appreciate it 'babe' but really.... we are an eclectic discerning bunch who are not at all likely 2 rush out and buy NOW 68....however I kinda get off on the Jackass/dirty sanchez vibe of making yourself listen 2 it as some kinda torture and looking cool 2 'chicks' 4 doing it...so ,well done you....now go and review the westlife album....only joking...I mean it.....thats just 2 far.But as a special Christmas treat u should review the Now Christmas Album.....Shit...did I just blow the gaffe AGAIN? xxx

invite Shayne ward 2 your party and i will turn him into a novelty bong using his asshole as a shot-gun....its for my crack (no pun intended)you see.If were listening 2 NOW 68 I couldn't possibly smoke draw. You can fill Shayne ward with poisoned vodka and ice so I can have my rocks on the rocks as it were.Don't even start me on what 2 do with James Blunt.Thing is...I couldn't actually bear 2 be close enough 2 patronise him.I think I'd better go and take my tablets xxx
