CLASSIC ALBUM REVIEW ::: RICHIE HAWTIN - DE9 CLOSER TO THE EDIT

Current mood: QUALITY...
Category: QUALITY... Music

When the shit dies down the quality comes through??

Perhaps..

I had the misfortune to catch the last 20 minutes of X-Factor this evening. It get's worse and worse and one can only hope it dies a dull and very stupid death - some wrangling over appearance rights, repeat fee's, Sharon Osbournes doom or fat bills..

In contrast, I came home Friday night in some kind of a state, and put on 3 consecutive
Richie Hawtin LPs.

When i waver on control and discipline, I always call for Hawtin..

Hawtin is a proper techno music man. He'll be talked about and adored in 150 years time long after the entire cast of X-Factor are pushing up pretty dumb daisies. He's a complete and sure fire fucking genius..

He's so good
Wikipedia don't even have a clue about his importance..

Yes boss, the truth of the future is being as invisible as posible in the present (thus avoiding the paroxysm of energy shit fame) whilst still producing the highest quality product..

Closer to the Edit succedes in trees...

'Hawtin took samples of over 100 different tracks and stripped them down to their most basic elements (some samples are only 1 note - others last 4 bars), then reconstructed the entire batch of sounds jigsaw puzzle style into a 50-minute plus mix that utilizes over 300 different loops.'

I mean fuck me if this isn't the best techno mix LP of all time...?

Unless told or very knowledgeable you'd have no idea about it's origins. It sounds neither fragmented or geeky. It's strong and emotive, but religiously straight and smooth...

Techno soul..

Hawtin lives and works so far into the future, he has a moon colony and complete museum of antique jetpacks.

And this is a great LP...
