BLACK VINYL WHITE POWDER :: WEALTH

Current mood: NOT ENOUGH TIME
Category: NOT ENOUGH TIME Music

With personal income tax often running as high as 96 per cent, The Beatles' accountants advised them to invest in everything they could. The group took this to mean 'spend, spend, spend' and poured money into Apple. They paid inventors to invent, designers to design, songwriters to wirte, producers to produce, accountants to sign cheques, and drug dealers to provide the staff with whatever was needed to make everyday a holiday.

Derek Taylor - previously their publicist, and even more into acid than The Beatles themselves - was appointed managing director. He understood what they wanted to do and approved of it. But instead of pulling it together for them, he entered too wholeheartedly into the spirit of things.

When someone turned up at Apple saying he was Adolf Hitler, Derek invited him in, opened a bottle of wine, and asked how Eva was.
