BLACK VINYL WHITE POWDER :: CHARACTER

Category: Music

For The Who's manager, Tommy represented his ultimate achievement. Kit Lambert had instigated its creation, seen it performed at the New York Opera House, and heard it heaped with praise. He'd appeased the destruction of his father's life at the hands of the critics.

But with the success of Tommy, the focus had been removed from Kit's life. he couldn't cool down. He became incapable of properly managing The Who. He hired the Queen Mary for a promotion party and supplied a different drug on every deck. He holidayed for a month in Mexico and forgot the two stretch limos that were on 24 hour call outside his hotel in New York. At Sardis he set the lampshades on fire to attract the waiters attention. He loved to walk into hustler bars with the tip of a thousand dollar bill protruding from his half-zipped flies. Finally he bought himself a palace in Venice and renamed himself Il Baroni Lambert.
