5 MORE LPS FROM THE LAST YEAR OR THREE...

HIJACKALOPE
BOSS DICK

I've virtually known Hijackalope for a while.

In fact one of my very first blogs was about his blog. He then blogged about my blog, and on it went for another one or two blogs, before we both got bored with an idea we thought might run for centuries and make us both fantastic millionaires..

Idea failure aside, Mr Lopes myspazzin blogs, featuring the evergreen Kenny G, are much thinner on the ground these days, but remain amongst the most concise, funny and telling I've ever read..

Musically Hijackalope is however a strange and dangerous wierdo..

Yes boss, armed only a selection of guns, a laptop, guitar and effects pedal and a bunch of hidden Iraqi refugees, Mr Lope comes out with record after record that make you believe Frank Zappa was a normal watercooler kinda guy..

Boss Dick is just such a record and it's difficult to know what to say about it.: Expressive, unafraid of a Muslim hate backlash, quickfire, chaotic, funny, odd and all told pretty unique..

I like the tracks Jazz, You're Hijacking My Heart and Punk Rock Retirement Home in particular...

It's not an easy or relaxing listen, but there's definately enough fun for a 8.5 from Pious Giovanni...

"LET'S GO THE MALL, LET'S GO TO THE MALL!!!!!!"

All Hijackalope LPs are available for try and free download at www.hijackalope.com

ABDOMINAL
ESCAPE FROM THE PIGEONHOLE
DO RIGHT MUSIC

Right on intelligent rappers, who's only song about fucking is one in which it suggests men should take their time on the job, so as to give the woman an 'O' (to ensure she'll come back for more...) aren't that common...

Mmmm...No

What I mean is that it's a wierd genre is Hip Hop.

It's either beset by over worthy politicalness or BLINGTABULOUS BOOTY EXCESS!!!! Basically, it's bi-polar: A movement for social change and a hedonistic headgasm...

Anyway, I don't mind this LP because it's somewhere in the middle. Yes boss, anyone who mentions Lance Armstrong in a song is likely to get the Giovan-nod. The lyrics are intelligent and neat and though I doubt it'll blow your tits off, it's definately OK from time to time...

BISHI
NIGHT AT THE CIRCUS
GRYPHON RECORDS

The cynical part of me wanted to diss this one, but the happy days Paul has won through...

Basically speaking, Bishi makes pop music. Pop Music that is distinct, light and bright. Brimming with Sitar, the music is fresh. The vocals are innocent and almost sweet.

It's distinct and that's what I like...

TIM WRIGHT
THIRST
NOVAMUTE

With few exceptions, Techno LPs have always been wierd...

Yes boss, techno culture is so much about the dancefloor, that the idea of sitting down and listening to a full length banging CD in the home is almost quaint. Real DJs used to only ever play 12"s, but things change and then there was The Prodigy...

Anyway, I can't fault the music on this one.

Yes boss, I like to sit at home and play techno albums - they work like fuel for the days events and I especially like the kind of techno Mr Wright plays...

He's on the same kind of vein of bumpy, tech glitch rockness that's been ploughed by the likes of Two Lone Swordsmen and Radiocative Man. It's funky, neat and trim and I can certainly recommend it...

JULIAN FANE
OUR NEW QUATERS
PLANET MU

This is one of those I'm trying to like..

Basically, you've got something akin to a mix of
My Bloody Valentine
and Anthony and the Johnsons.

The voice is distinct and pretty high pitched, whilst the full on, perhaps slightly over produced production soundclashes away in the background. There's no doubting the comitment and as with Bishi - it's distinct...

Yes boss, I've listened a few times and each time I do, I reckon I'll give it another go and in the past this has been the kind of thing that's led me into long term adoration...

So, Jesus James Chrsit!?! I think I'm recomending all 5 of these LPs (and two of them are from Canada - WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?)...

Yes...

I find there's a definite time and mood for techno. I find it helps organise the filing cabinets in my brain very well indeed...
