ALO * ANIMAL LIBERATION ORCHESTRA
FLY BETWEEN FALLS
BRUSHFIRE RECORDS AKA ISLAND
I started off liking this a fair ammount.
Yes boss, you regular readers will know I'm a futureboy who doesn't often care for gingly jangly guitar, vocals and old style, but this has some nice tunes and sounded pretty fresh..
But 7 or 8 plays in, and I'm bored of it. It sounds samey. There's some interesting rhythms and enough going on to not hate it, but all told I find it a bit dull, so can't really recommend it...
THE BEST OF DIRE STRAITS & MARK KNOPFLER
DIRE STRAITS & MARK KNOPFLER
SOME BIG FUCKING RECORD LABEL
Dire Straits are one of those bands so lovingly hated by so many (I'm sure including many readers of this 'ere BLINGER) that I can't help but try and do a serious review of them based purely on their musical merits rather than their Dad rock rep...
So: My opinion it that this is a generally crap LP, but has a few good moments.
Money For Nothing is a gem of a pop track and for this reason alone Dire Straits should be worth at least a little respect. Going Home is also anthenically alright as are a couple of the others off the Brothers In Arms LP, but the rest is mostly soft brown kaka featuring some very well recorded guitar...
THE PET SHOP BOYS
DISCOGRAPHY
SOME OTHER BIG FUCKING RECORD LABEL
In contrast to the 'Straits' this is a wonderful greatest hits package...
Surburbia, So Hard, Rent & It's a Sin to name but 4 are all ACE pop tracks. We're talking thoughtful lyrics, nice tunes AKA proper mindful pop that stands the time test very well...
Yes boss, more or less everyone's a winner on this and if you don't have the individual LPs you must certainly buy it..
M.I.A
AKULA
XL
I'm in and out on M.I.A..
The music has it's moments, though I find it a little jarring and blank to enjoy most of the time.
Lyrically, I don't have much idea what she's on about.
Personality wise, I find her to be a bit ridiculous and I don't much go for this I'm down with the Sri Lankans kick - but there's some colour about her and I'm not sure there's anyone doing quite the same thing, so I'll go for a 50/50 not sure.
