Current mood: RINGING.....
Category: RINGING..... Music
What a completely fucking dull Friday night this has been...
I was due to be in Brighton with the Eugene Machine, but working circumstances conspired against that and with the wind soaked pissy weather I stayed in to lick the clean water taps dry..
Home and sober alone, I figured the next best thing to a rockin gig in Brighton would be a Portugese Football Match a lá fish - but what should have been a goal ridden local derby turned into pitifully finished 0-0 draw which cost me all of last weeks profits...
Things can only get better...
So, to keep my mind fluid and hopey, here's some news for the week ahead, including some jumping South London joy news...
Yes boss, this Friday see's the launch of a new bi-monthly night of quality experimental electronic music down at The Corsica Studios in Elephant & Castle..
Entitled The Mothership, the night looks set to rinse heads and clean minds of bad things like The NME YAWNawards..
Fresh on the first landing of the ship is Mike Paradinas AKA U-ziq...
Mr P has been one of my favourites for more years than I've owned computers, and his Planet Mu label rarely disappoints...
The last time I saw him play was a remarkable 4 years back - That day I'd got £4500 for selling my caravan in the woods and was unusually (and very breifly) flushed for cash.
To celebrate, I headed to Electroworkz where U-ziq played together with Cylob DJ Rephlex Records. It was one of the best nights of toxic music I can ever remember hearing. There was no fuss and no hype, just a bevy of hours of UNRELENTING high quality musical intensity.....
I came out with my head feeling like it'd been cleaned with warm and wholesome bleach..
I thereby strongly advise anyone who's local to London to pen it in....
On a more global level, Monday at 2pm see's Episode 3 of The Sound Riviera on 104.4FM and to stream free worldwide from www.resonancefm.com..
Comparred by Dan Hayhurst and Victoria Lavery, The Sound Riviera is a series that mines the history of magnetic tape...
And finally, on Saturday evening, there's a free gig at The Barbican Center featuring Scanner..
Scanner is another of my favourite electronic/experimental producers.
His early material which featured rather tasty excerpts of tapped mobile phone conversations was about as moody and intrusive as I've heard electronic music to be. Since then he's gone on to cover more musical ground than a greyhound that's found a real running rabbit sauntering about it's paddock...
There's also a bunch of other stuff, including drama by Ken Campbell and glow in the dark knitting...
Full details of this free event can be had by clicking here...
