IGGY POP

Current mood: POPPY
Category: POPPY Music

I read a wonderful piece in the NME yesterday. It was a brief interview with Iggy Pop. The main aim of it was to garner his opinions on how to go about a career in Rock N Roll..

The main staple to success in Pops view is to avoid a normal job at all costs.

This I completely concur with.

Once you're dealing with full time work, it's close to impossible to put enough energy into any kind of other career particularly one as demanding as music. You can certainly stay in the game, but when it comes down to the final breakdown, those with the time and energy from doing what they like with their days will always have an edge..

Of course it's very difficult to survive without the security and money of a job, but I've found it can be done for years on end if you have the determination and ingenuity to do it.

Yes boss, money is a strange and complicated beast, but I maintain the best way to treat it is like it's a hard, selfish and mean spirited shit. If you start pandering to the whims of cash and allow it to dictate terms, problems are gonna arise and before you know what's what, payola will win the battle for your heart and mind...

Other advices from Mr Pop were to never think you've made it no matter how well you appear to be doing, and to be aware that everyone in the music business BAR NONE, is posessed with 'murderous ambition'

As normal, Mr Pop is great value for money and the whole thing is definately worth reading in full.

So for once, I would sincerely recommend buying, or at least reading the NME..
