Why did the Arctic Monkeys dress up as characters from the Wizzard of OZ for the Brit awards?? Was it some kind of clever joke the content and meaning of which I missed??

What one hears in the mainstream is rarely indicitive of quality IMO. there's no doubt that the engineers and producers are of a high standard but the Artists themselves leave a lot to be desired. In this day and age Modern home recording technology and the internet reveals a wealth of interesting music but you have to look for it cos there is a hell of a lot of shit out there too, ha ha!

Dunno didn't watch it

Until somebody assinates Simon Cowell, Please!

1) No, quality doesn't always come through, there's too much shit out there, and too many high quality unsigned musicians playing pubs to prove it. The shit must be blocking the way for the quality to get through.

The general consumer no longer wants quality, they want cheap crap that can be replaced this time next year. The same goes for the music consumer

2) Because they're pretentious pricks

3) So long as the music industry continues to market towards 10 year olds and the Saturday night families as opposed to music lovers this shit will always be number 1

I'm inclined to agree that many talented people quit because of the crap in the way, but also because they don't have the staying power or the desire or the work ethic..

I'm not an Arctic Monkeys fan. The first time i heard an AM track i was listening to Chris Moyles (against my choice I might add) and I honestly thought it was Moyles doing some kind of joke song parrodying The Libertines..The best the AMs'll get in the annals of rock is a footnote about being the first myspace band to make it big. They're all about marketing and not about music.

Good number ones allways come through, but it's a part of the death of the cult of the no 1 that it's sewn up now by X factor..

I can't say I hate Simon Cowell though. He's honest enough to be what he is and admit to it, which is more than can be said of many people both wthin and outside of the music industry...

But does everyone get their dues or are some ripped off??

The Monkeys didn't turn up, but instead sent a vid of themselves dressed up as characters from the Wiz of OZ. I was just wondering if there was something behind it or if it was a Nathan Barleyesque nonsense "cause like yeah the wizzard, is like wiz and once when we were on wizz we saw the wizzard of oz, so we thought it'd be cool to dress up like the wizzard of oz to say thanks to all our hardcore fans who love us and know everything about us and go into HMV and say 'Can i have the album by that internet band please''

Cowell might die in a strange accident, but the new Pete Waterman will take over

I do think you have to market yourself and generate support and hype for anything you do or it just gets ignored. and as the general public like to be spoonfed their entertainment you get whatever the radio stations and music channels decide to play. I think it will change in the future cos the big record companies won't be viable as more artists become independent.
