Politics 3

Current mood: THE EXPLANATION...
Category: THE EXPLANATION... News and Politics

Thinking about those previous blogs and reading the comments has made me realise better what I'm on about here...

All these comments and analysis I've made of the US Election are laced and informed by my own experience of politics.

Yes boss, in the past, I've invested very heavily in the ability of charismatic leaders and ideas SAVING THE WORLD!!! AND THE CHILDREN!!! AND THE WILDLIFE!!!!! AND THE CLIMATE!!!!

I've put huge amounts of myself into causes and campaigns and each time I've ended up being disappointed by the lack of REAL results...

Then one day, I realised that none of it mattered and that I was wasting my time.

This realisation had something to do with Burt Bacarach singing Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, something to do with an excellent essay by Charles Bukowski and something to do with the knowing that unless I eased up on the politics, I'd up in some VERY SERIOUS TROUBLE INDEED!!!!

But you know what???

Realising that politics, death and destruction really didn't matter was a great release for me - because since then I've been able to say..

'So what??'

'THE EARTH'S WARMING UP!!!!'

'So what??'

'THE RAINFORESTS ARE BEING LOGGED!!!'

'So what??'

'GEORGE BUSH IS A CUNT WHO'S RUINING THE WORLD!!!'

'So what??'

Instead of looking at these events as being tragedies, I now see them as being opportunities - essential agents of change and evolution and development.

I've also come to distrust people who claim they can tame and control them as being pure egotists who must not be encouraged....

Yes boss, if similar cataclysms hadn't happened in the past, there wouldn't be any oil to fight over, or a Grand Canyon to gawp at and call beautiful, or a even the kind of climate that allows humans to function and multiply...

So...

I'm not apologising for driving my Official PG£ Bulldozer through your US political hope, or changing my mind about Obama or Bono or any other grand alleged revolutionary...

I do however perhaps feel a bit like an reformed alcoholic who CAN'T SHUT UP ABOUT THE EVILS OF DRINK!!!!!

Which is the kind of behaviour, I tend to find to be a terrible fucking bore when indulged in by ex-alcoholics.....

So, now I will shut up and let you enjoy your political hope drinks in peace...
