A FEW RELATIVE OPINIONS TO KEEP ME AWAKE

Current mood: DRINKING ROSE
Category: DRINKING ROSE Music

Up to now I've been mostly working to a sensible structure with this blog, but for an hour or so tonight, I'm gonna let fire a selection of teenage opinions, thoughtless questions, obtuse thoughts and clever suggestions..Many may not make sense, be pretentious, unconstructive or be lacking any discernible value. I might even edit them in the morning to save face, but for now they're here and they could use some responses....

Why is music and art a passport to the possibility of getting laid??

Juliette and the Licks: What a complete and total load of fucking rubbish...

Why are electronic musicians so often conceited and reluctant??

It's My Wall. That Wall Is My Wall..

Nightclubs are a con anyway you look at them

Queens Hot Space was a decent album

Music journalism is always forgetable

Hard work gets you a pension and a lot of satisfaction regardless of who pays attention to the work..

No music can be as good as birdsong

Is anyone preparred to give me a Glastonbury Ticket and the omplete guarantee of a good time??

Myspace is killing creativity because we spend all our time looking for the red alerts and not enough time doing the work..

X Factor is chasing me...Why??

Good pop music is always contrived, clever and cynical..

Bono Vox is a good man despite his ego

The internet drains your blood

Bodenstandig 2000 had a brief moment of music at the begining of the Crazy Frog adverts

God, I had an absolute moment of brilliance just then and I've forgotten it..

And that will do...If you have any answers or anger to vent: comment

Why is music and art a passport to the possibility of getting laid??

people equate creativity with creativity in the sack... a bad equation, to be sure.

Why are electronic musicians so often conceited and reluctant??

because these are the creative people who are not getting laid.

Nightclubs are a con anyway you look at them

agreed. good place to convince drunken people that you are indeed creative...

Good pop music is always contrived, clever and cynical..

indeed, see Bill Drummond's 'The Manual'. book of the year/lifetime.

God, I had an absolute moment of brilliance just then and I've forgotten it..

that's ok, i've got it... oh, hang on...

I mostly agree, but 'Doctorin The Tardis' not cynical??? And plenty (tho not me) would say burning a million quid is about as conceitful and cynical as you can get even if the intention was anything but....I guess it depends whether we're looking at intent or translation...Bill & Jimmy followed whims - The White Room was after all meant to be a film soundtrack not a hit record...I've no doubt they meant everything they did...

they came from the stars, i saw them

nope, i don't think that doctoring the tardis ws cynical. Clever, calculated, but fuck me they were two people having A REALLY GOOD LAUGH. And with such an incredible amount of love for their chosen medium. I guess it all depends on your definition of the word cynical - for me it has such negative connotations of something done with a great amout of spite, sneering at one's audience.

Yes...I think we're talking definitions here. I'm thinking cynical doesn't have to mean negative, which probably means I'd be better served by using a word like calculating or contrived.. I was of the impression that cynicism related to the Greek philosophers who lived in barrells, which i always thought was a pretty brave move and not at all negative. I'll check this..
Re: the Pip and Le Sac single - Yeh it's quite dark and in places negative, but there's plenty of humour there that for me offsets any cynicism. And quite apart from the lyrics, I like the sounds wibbling away in the background....
Hows about 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua?? Never have I seen a tune so roundly slated by music heads as Barbie Girl...Would the response have been the same if The KLF had made that tune?? I doubt it. I've certainly read that Bill Drummond rated it very highly as do I.....
Is Barbie Girl cyncial, calculated or fun??
