Hey PGPoundSign, enjoyed the first episode. Nice selection of music. I've been playing it for background ambience while online. I thought that flushing the toilet on George Michael was a little cruel, though. I mean, he does spend a lot of time in public restrooms these days, and that seems to be the only place to get his latest releases, but give the guy a break, okay fella?

I agree that flushing the bog on George was mean..

But in all honesty it came from the subconscious and I didn't seriously think 'I'M GOING TO NAIL MICHAEL!!'

I love the song and had the flush earlier in the mix as the first major transition - after I'd moved it and heard it a few times I understood why my sunconscious had acted...

I dunno... William Burroughs was big on the number 23. Strange mystical properties or something.

I can't even be arsed to make a disparaging comment about Beckham: the pic on your earlier post spaks for itself.

As far as I know it started with Michael Jordan - Beckham copied the 23 when he moved to Real Madrid (his preferred Number 7 shirt was in use by club legend Raul)..

I don't know if Shane Warne copied or has his own ideas with it..

A few people have been into it down the years - I'm into it because I don't understand why on earth it should be important yet seems to be...

23 PROBLEMS...

Current mood: SALVATION....
Category: SALVATION.... Music

Strange things happen when you fuck about with sacred concepts 23..

I had Casa Hasa Giovanna 01 ready all week - I've had it on headphones as perfect, and after completing the last adjustments set about the final FINAL adjustments and compression to mp3 for tonights release @ 23.23pm...

My brother was on his way, which left me no further editing time.

I play it through and the last track has somehow edited itself into not just the 3 introductions more than 10...?!?

It's inexplicable, because I never touched the ending...

So, I finally fix that (though I have no idea how) and then I upload....

I immediately download my own copy, but don't have time to listen to it.

Now, close to an hour after release, I listen to find one the crucial early sounds has inexplicably mutated itself?!? Again - I didn't even touch the begining....

I'm fixing it and will upload the correct version just as soon as I've checked through the rest for computer folly flim flam foibles...

So, those of you quick on the trigger will have a rarer and shittier version than everyone else, featuring a rather slowy boat sound, rather than a quaint and beautiful boat chugging sound...

AHOY!!

LATIN JAZZ...

Current mood: WARNED...
Category: WARNED... Music

Inbetween the snatch and grab of Oxford Street and the actors inside and outside the pub, I walked Berwick Street..

Depicted on the front cover of Quoasis - What's the Story Morning Glory, Berwick Street used to be a mecca of record shops, home to studios, PR agencies and all the other sideline buff that feeds and feeds off the money spinner that was music...

In total, I've spent weeks of my life browsing and buying Berwick Street. There used to be 9 or 10 independent record shops - but as download times dictate, they're dying out..

There's probably 6 left and yesterday I passed Mister CD to find it's the latest to go..

The trouble with Mister CD was that it mostly stocked crap: Returns, remainders, iffy commercial bootlegs of classic artists, shoddy compilations, major label flatulance and chart music, but with everything at a quid I felt sure I could rustle up something worthwhile...

Well, I think I did, but I have no clear idea. They seem to be South American Experimental Jazz LPs - If anyone recognises or knows anymore, do let me know...

Time Machine - The Best of Direct Drive & First Light 1981-83
Jazz Band De Free - Ego
Chivo Borraro - El Chivo Borraro En Vino
Julinho - O Som Do Julinho
Orlann Divo - A Chave Do Sucesso

Christopher Nosnibor

I doubt it's entirely coincidental that jazz is only a letter away from jizz.

I'm not going to start up again on the demise of the (independent) record store: I've already blogged myself silly on the subject to a few lacklustre 'hear hear' comments, but ultimately, it seems that as consumers we (as a nation, a society) are inherently lazy and don't give a fuck because we're quite happy to download inferior quality recordings without artwork or info (or anything physical we can lend to friends) on MP3. And that goes for all music, and not just South American Experimental Jazz (which is too expensive at any price).

: THE FUTUREPROOF MUSIC BLOG BY PIOUS GIOVANNI :

So what's your beef with South American Jazz??? Have you heard it all or are you just guessing??

I don't have any problem with mp3's without artwork - artwork is most normally an add-on done by folk interested in making money as graphic deisgners.

Independent record shops are all very well, but very exclusive and snobby. Personally I prefer downloading - there's less attitude...

It's sad but true. We just have to get used to it or sound like our parents. Radiohead are apparantly going to do exclusives for independent record stores only. Colin Greenwood (Rhead bassist) told me this personally. Musicians do care and some are doing what they can, but it is unfortunately the future.

At the end of the day its a rip off to only get mp3s for your money. A good reason to give it away! Prince, Charlatans, Radiohead, Futureheads....oh and Clinker ;) (www.clinker.org.uk)

Who knows what the future will be. At least its moving on from the stale old farts and becoming more interesting (on a positive note).

Radiohead can kiss my arse...

I've never heard a more self indulgent and dully comfortable band - if i wanted to kill myself I'd play them, but otherwise their records will always stay a million miles away from my mp3 player...

I think the future is very bright. recorded music has never been so free as it is now...

Whatever I think of Radiohead's music recently, I have to say I like their anti-marketing strategies. Only trouble is, there are so few independent stores left! Not that there's much to shout about in the remaining chains... HMV's currently stocking only 1 (yes, ONE) single at the moment, in the form of the X-factor winner's effort. Hmm, so, what's gonna be the Christmas number one?

I'm not entirely pessimistic, because as you've identified, there are artists who are finding their own ways of going about it. Keep up the good work, and fight the fight!

you're listening 2 pink floyd AGAIN! My little go at Led Zep the other day is still mainly fuelled by the bigger boys throwing cassettes at my head when I sniggered at this and other prog bollocks.However....I did used 2 listen 3 interstellar Overdrive, whilst spinning a mirror ball as the sun went down.It was lo-fi,sure enough, but it was makeshift psychedelia in my bedroom in a provincial town.I always said I would make some oil slides and never got around 2 it :(

it can become 2 contrived, and on the getting stoned front....less is definitely more.Dont do it 4 ages and you'll giggle like a bastard.I actually watched a programme about drug use and I can understand and agree with what they're saying in retrospect, altho' I wouldn't hear of it at the time.If you are gonna have a smoke...Goldie 'Timeless' is a good album :)

funny music is good. I want a copy of 'our kid, eh?' by the shirehorses, the songs are probally shit but the cover is worth at least £4.00 in humor value. the ultamate stoner comedy album is 'why bother' which is a series of improvisational interviews between chirs morris and peter cook .

sometimes i like cheese when im stoned, y'know anyting from soul fm, that goes down well when im not in the mood for vetitian snares, who is apparently retiring, have you herd any news about that?

PRANCING....

Current mood: CRAZY RGHT NOW
Category: CRAZY RGHT NOW Writing and Poetry

It's the weakness before christmas, so I went to buy forced gifts.

It was a cynically targeted: 2 shops. 3 forced g's.

I was executed in less than an hour...

As George Bush might say: Mission Accomplished!

But this wasn't much good, because I still had hours before my evening business meeting to discuss
THE CHAIRS OF POP POWER....

Now, another day, I might have sauntered and looked for ideas, but with that kind of fenzy going on, there was no choice but to sit.

The White Horse is on Rupert Street in Soho. If you go there in the morning or afternoon you're very likely to have the whole of the upstairs to yourself. It's like having a nicely appointed private drawing room with big windows that look towards The French House and the rabble of life.

Two things struck me as I sat sleepy dreaming into my stout...

1)

You get a lot of actors and theater people in The White Horse on account of it being behind two theaters and because the pints only cost just over 2 quid a hit..

Excuse me being judgemental, but actors are proper fucking freaks aren't they....?

Of course, I'm talking very generally - some are proper. But, the thing I nearly always notice with the trained, is that they have this REALLY REALLY O V E R rational and NOR-MAL manner of TALL-KING.

Yes boss, their words are always

C L E A R

and

OVER

STATED.

Diction is as clean as the pure driven snow and to the untrained or uncynical eye, they come over as being
THEEE
PERFECT folk
to take to ones parents for christmas..

But of course they're fucking acting...

Yes boss, nearly all the actors I've had anything to do with have been absolute and insecure mentalist wrecks. They've all had that over stated wholesomeness - but extract the big eye contact confidence from the front, and you nearly always find shimmering unsure eggshells - and those that aren't are completely unbearable...

2)

Being 'mad' is more or less in vogue these days.

Yes boss, if you describe yourself or someone else as being 'crazy' or 'mad' you're most normally boasting or complimenting - which is really quite odd when you think about it...

As Lee 'Scratch' Perry said 'Madness is the ultimate power' and he should know...

Anyway, this guy was outside the pub and he was completely off his fucking nut! I mean proper old fashioned mad - like an actor might play one of the more loopy characters from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.

Mr M was in and out of the phoneboxes like it was race. He was trying to lift bollards out of the concrete. He was runing up to people with this crazy gait and getting in their unhappy faces. He became obsessed with a coke can. He started playing with it like it was a mouse and he was a cat. He was bouncing...

The strange thing was, I liked this guy the most out of all of the folk I'd seen up till that point..

Yes boss, put him next to the politely concentrated yet rabbidly mean OK magazine throng of Oxford Street (all doing nothing more than buying what they've been told) and Mr Mad seemed like the kind of normal person I like.

He had character - too much character, but proper genuine character. He was off all known planets, but my heart warmed watching him rummage around his virtual world, following only HIS OWN thoughts and feelings without any kind of care about the real and certain world of christmas, jingle bells and Aunt Maudes neatly wrapped gifts..

The other big pop music news of the last few days is that the final of X Factor is widely rumoured to have been fixed..

Yes boss, whereas everyone felt certain the squalid competition should have been won by Hymn Hollerer Rhydian, it was instead won by a singer so worthless and dull I can't even remember his name...

The conspiracy is that Rhydians phone line was blocked for a crucial few minutes - thus loosing him the competition and creating the biggest upset in Reality TV betting ever!!

As a result, the whole show looks to be in danger of yet MORE publicity....

The plot thickens...

This all happenned 3 days after the capture of the CHAIRS OF POP POWER from first time X Factor winner Shayne Ward...

So, the news is that the
Spice Girls 'SOLD OUT in 38 Seconds' Reunion tour isn't quite as sold out as has been claimed...

No boss, word has it that there were empty seats on the very first night of this oh so hotly anticipated £$£$£$ fest and even more vacant chairs on the second night..

Now, why any cunt would wish to see these frazzled old dears gyrate is really beyond me. I mean walk around with some pop impressarios arm RIGHT UP YOUR FUCKING ARSE PULLING OUT YOUR KIDNEYS WHY DON'T YOU?!!?

"Tell me what I want what I really really want!! GIRL POWER!! RARARARAAAAAA"

CUNTS!!!

And whilst we're on the topic, if I have to look at these tragic old farts one more time, I'm gonna puke...

Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but Page & Plant currently look like Gandalf and Frosty The Snowman back for one more swing around the monkey puzzle tree - at least John Paul Jones has some fucking decorum about his look.

I'm sure many of you may well disagree with me on this one, but to be perfectly honest, I'm sick of this
'Led Zeppelin are still important today' thing already and they've only played one fucking show of what looks increasingly likely to be yet another around the world money spinner....

Indeed to be perfectly frank, I don't care how good people say Zep were back in the day, or how many people want to see them play again - in my book Zep were always viciously overated, very well marketed and well managed rock cocks!!

I mean what kind of cunts have a credit cards on the door or you're not coming in policy????

Apparantly after hearing Spice Girls new single, there were floods of people selling their tickets on ebay and at a reduced price. That brought a smile to my face. There's good in what they achieved (though I didn't like their music at all), but They should leave it at that.

Led Zeppelin were my favourite band years ago, but I didn't enter the lottery. They made some awesome music, brilliant production from Page. The last 2 albums are pretty ropey though. I watched Kashmir from the gig on youtube (surprisingly good quality too) and it was brilliant.

I've seen many re-union gigs some amazing (Pixies, New Order), some good (Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Echo and the Bunnymen) and....actually I can't think of any crap ones at the moment.

I am really looking forward to My Bloody Valentine (almost coming in my pants!!!) and I will hopefully also see the Verve (with a tear in my eye...er hmm). Those 2 are probably the best of all!!!

I don't want to see Zeppelin. I'm over that....and at least the verve still look good and are making new music, which I think bothered you about re-unions in a very old blog of yours.

Isn't interesting that the Spice Girls sold like 17 million records and nobody will admit to owning one? What happened to them all? They're probably collecting dust somewhere with all the KISS albums...

Gandalf and Doctor Who there have sold more records than anyone else in history. Ever wonder why they need to do a reunion in the first place? I guess they have some creative need of relevancy that needs to be expressed. Or maybe they're just bored...

DANX GROD!

Maybe you're right (maybe???) that they should stay retired.

But, to say they are viciously overrated is plain WRONG!

They were one of the best rock bands ever. EVER!

No one has even come close to Led Zep at their peak.

I can listen to most of their songs today and they sound as good as ever.

So what if you think I am an old fart for listening to "oldies."

If you like psychedelic rock, then there is not much argument that LZ tops the stack.

I saw them a few years back when Page and Plant reunited to do a tour. It was fantastic. They did a acoustic version of Kashmir with indian drummers... amazing!

But to be honest, I see no point in seeing them again. Same as with the Rolling Stones or the Who. Too expensive and too crowded. I'd rather just listen to their albums.

Cheers!

On Saturday 15th of December 2007, the regular patrons of The New Africa Shrine who come there to have a drink or watch the match of the day on our big screen TV were treated to to a rude shock by the Nigerian Police when they barged into the premises without a search warrant, asked every one to lie down and then marched them outside to lie on the streets. Passersby on foot and in cars were also made to lie down on the streets while the Police proceeded to ransack the premises. No one was aware of what they were looking for. Femi and Yeni's rooms were also ransacked, clothes and costumes were strewn everywhere. The patrons and staff were horsewhipped and musical instruments destroyed. The siege lasted till 5:00 am when the cars of the patrons totaling about 50 were towed away from the premises. During the operation money and drinks were lost from the bar and restaurant.

Femi and Yeni were called at home and rushed to the scene. Femi was allowed onto the premises and was shocked to see the state of the New Africa Shrine. We have always shared a cordial and friendly relationship with the police who come on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays to protect the property of the patrons, and if there is any sign of trouble they are contacted immediately.

Over 350 people were arrested and detained during the siege. No explanation was given for the arrests.

Femi and Yeni were at the task force office as early as 9:00 am on Sunday and spent about 12 and a half hours at the task force office where they were told unofficially that the Police had been looking for arms. No such thing as arms were found on or around the premises. No Indian hemp was found on the premises of the Shrine as Femi and Yeni do NOT allow sale of Indian hemp on the premises of the Shrine.

On Sunday most of the Shrine staff were released and a substantial number of their patrons also.

The New Africa Shrine has always worked hand in hand with the Nigerian Police since its inception 7 years ago, and we are alarmed that such an action was taken against it without informing the management if any such thing was suspected of its patrons who include honorable members of the society like Doctors, Lawyers, Bankers and expatriates. In fact for the Felabration Festival the Shrine hosted a lot of visitors from abroad, and last week Saturday the Shrine played host to a popular American artiste, Talib Kweli, who came to film a music video at the Shrine.

We have built up a reputation over the years and would not do anything to spoil that reputation so the allegations purported against us are false and defaming.
